Still Proud

It was a tough, physical battle at dusty Bowers Field Saturday night. Five yellow cards were issued. Two goals were scored; unfortunately none for the Braves.

“I feel awful for the seniors, but we’ve turned the corner this year,” Braves coach Reed Maltbie said. “As much as I wanted to win this game, losing doesn’t change where we are.

“Ross went out and took what they wanted tonight, and that’s fine,” he continued. “I’m still proud of our team for the season they’ve had and the kind of guys they are. They’re not league champions, but they’re champions in my heart.”

Maltbie had special praise for three of his seniors: Marks, center back Bill Moloney and stopper Joop Roberts.

“Reed has done a good job with his team,” Ross coach Bill Buelsing said. “They certainly didn’t give us this game.”

Kody Wilhelm's 9 assists tie him for 4th.

The 8-4-3 Braves have a chance to add to their stats Saturday night when they face Ross in the regular season final.

'Victory Beyond the Game'

Its more than just a blue bracelet. Its more than just a saying chosen by our young men. Its an ideal for how to live their lives.

Owen, a first grader at Kramer school, wanted to sit on the sidelines for a Varsity soccer game this season. Unfortunately his lymphoma will not allow him to leave the hospital. The team signed this ball for him at practice to let him know he is in their thoughts and that they're hoping for his recovery.

We're thinking of you Owen. Get well!

Talawanda boys' soccer team 'peaking'

Coaches like to see their teams get better as the season goes on, building toward possible league championships and a strong showing in the postseason.

The Talawanda Braves boys’ soccer team seems to be doing just that in 2010, especially after a stirring 3-0 win over Kings Tuesday, Sept. 28, which ran their record to 7-3-1 for their fourth straight win.

“We are peaking. We definitely hit our stride,” Coach Reed Maltbie said after the game. “We are getting good leadership from our seniors and have a will to win.”

The Braves scored an early goal and then got a second in the first half for a 2-0 lead. They added a goal early in the second half and held on for the shutout 3-0 win against Kings.

Don't Tread On Us!

'2' is the 'magic number' after plucking the Mt. Healthy Owls 6 to nil Saturday night. League leading Prosper Rumano notched two more goals in the win as did Kody Wilhelm, who also had an assist. Trent Lay had a goal and an assist to Joe Maglich to insure the victory.

Last night The Braves 'de-throned' Kings 3 goals to none improving their season record to 7-3-1. Prosper Rumano and Kody Wilhelm combined on the first two goals to give the Braves the lead over the Knights. Asa Diskin headed in the finishing goal after a beautiful cross from a galloping Alex Thyen. Ryan Marks earned his 4th shutout on the season with 10 saves.

'The Braves are coming! The Braves are coming!'

Talawanda remains undefeated in both the East and West divisions of the FAVC and face conference foe Harrison Thursday night.

Kick off at 7:00.... Join the Revolution!

Dynamic Duo

The Mens Soccer team 'Released the Kraken' on Norwood last night putting up 3 goals in just the first half. All were scored by the 'Dynamic Duo' of Prosper Rumano and assisted by Kody Wilhelm. HATS OFF! Austin Haidet and freshmen sensation Aaron Kawamura scored 2 more in the second..... final score Braves: 5 Indians: 1.

The Braves are now 2 and 0 in league play with 10 goals for and only 2 against.

The JV team tied 'nil/ nil' with goalies Kevin Jewitt and Justin Brown sharing the 'clean sheet.'

Both teams travel to Wyoming tomorrow night for a shootout with the Cowboys.

We Shall Never Surrender!

We shall not flag nor fail. We shall go on to the end.
The Braves fought valiantly against the "Big Blue" of Hamilton yesterday: overcoming a two goal half time deficit to tie the game with a goal from Prosper Rumano and a rebounded blast from junior midfielder Ben Whiteman. Kody Wilhelm and Joe Maglich got the assists. The heroic comeback fell short, however, Talawanda losing 3 to 2. We may have lost this battle but we shall go on to win the war!

Run Away!

What are 5 good reasons the Northwest 'K-nig-hts' won't soon forget the Braves Soccer team?

Joe Maglich, Kody Wilhelm, Austin Haidet, Trent Lay, and Bill Moloney !

All 5 scored last night in a 5 to 1 Talawanda victory making the Braves undefeated in Fort Ancient Valley play.

The Knights ran away before we could defeat them a second time, but the Braves take on Hamilton, home, at 3:00 tomorrow.

The JV tied 1-1 with the lone goal coming off a free kick taken by Alex Ross.

Bill Moloney doesn’t need a scoreboard to tell him whether he’s had a good match.

All he has to do is count the number of new bumps, bruises and scrapes on his body.

Victory!

It took 3 goals to defeat the Middletown Middies last night. Prosper Rumano scored two of them, beating the Middies defense with his speed; and he assisted a third by laying it off to Andrew Jarvi who buried it. Speed Kills. Despite Middletown's efforts to get back into the game with a controversial second half penalty kick, Talawanda was able to keep the lead winning 3 to 2.

The JV team was also victorious; winning 4 to nil with Alex Ross, Ben Kirchner, and Andrew Marks all finding the "back of the ol' onion bag."

Talk To THE Hand

Following a hard fought battle against the #5 ranked Vikings of Miamisburg Wednesday, the Braves bounced back last night holding the Turpin Spartans to a scoreless draw. Ryan Marks led the Braves defense with 14 saves and the shutout. He was protected by the well organized defensive machine of Bill Moloney, Joop Roberts, Asa Diskin, and Kevin Jamison. The 'Fantastic Four' baffled the Turpin offense drawing them offsides 8 times. Who says a scoreless draw can't be exciting?!

Why be just a fan when you can be a FANATIC?! Check out all the Braves stats and standings here or by clicking on the 'FAVC Stats' link to the right.

Braves of Olde

Yesterday was a great day for Talawanda Soccer, and tomorrow looks promising too! Thanks to all our Alumni who came out to participate in the return of the Alumni game including a cameo from Coach Brown. The event showcased the proud history of Talawanda soccer and its exciting future frequently pitting brother against brother on the pitch. Regardless of the score everyone was a winner at the picnic after. Mmmmm...... picnic. Props to Coach Chad and Coach Jamison for organizing the event and to all the chefs.

Sweet Emotion

The Braves hosted Valley View Tuesday night rebounding from a tough game against Lakota West on Sunday. Nine goals were scored for the good guys but more importantly the team got to work on 'The System' building discipline and confidence.

Two a day practices will continue all this week from 9 to 11 in the am and 6 to 8 in the pm.

Next week (Aug 1 to the 9th) is no contact week for coaches but that should not mean no contact week for you with the ball. Get out and juggle. Go for a jog. Kick PKs at the garage door. Just do it.

Mark your calendars for August 12th, 7pm, THS gym: Mandatory Pre-Season meeting for all Fall athletes and their parents to go over rules and expectations for the season.

If you haven't scheduled a physical now would be the time to do so. Athletic Fees can be paid in the AD office at the HS. See Coach Kelly for extra forms or questions.

Enjoy these last days of summer and get excited for the start of the season.

Go Braves!

Character Building

After a busy pre-season weekend in which the Braves played 4 matches in 2 days, the team took time to do some community service by helping move boxes of books for the annual 'Friends of Lane Public Library' sale. This gives a new definition to Heavy Summer Reading.
