Still Proud

It was a tough, physical battle at dusty Bowers Field Saturday night. Five yellow cards were issued. Two goals were scored; unfortunately none for the Braves.

“I feel awful for the seniors, but we’ve turned the corner this year,” Braves coach Reed Maltbie said. “As much as I wanted to win this game, losing doesn’t change where we are.

“Ross went out and took what they wanted tonight, and that’s fine,” he continued. “I’m still proud of our team for the season they’ve had and the kind of guys they are. They’re not league champions, but they’re champions in my heart.”

Maltbie had special praise for three of his seniors: Marks, center back Bill Moloney and stopper Joop Roberts.

“Reed has done a good job with his team,” Ross coach Bill Buelsing said. “They certainly didn’t give us this game.”

Three Talawanda players made this weeks Prep Soccer Honor Roll in the Cinci Enquirer. Add another goal to Prosper Rumano's stats after the 2-nil victory vs. West Carrollton last night and he ties for 3rd in the city, while Ryan Marks 7th shutout puts him in 2nd. Kody Wilhelm's 9 assists tie him for 4th.

The 8-4-3 Braves have a chance to add to their stats Saturday night when they face Ross in the regular season final.

There is no place like home, and the Braves will finish the season with home matches against West Carrolton and league rival Ross this week.

The Braves remain undefeated and in the drivers seat atop the FAVC West.

The final game against Ross is also Senior Night and a big turnout is expected. Be there for all the action Saturday, October 16; 7:00 kickoff.
