Friends of Lane Library

'The young men of the THS soccer team that helped me at the library today were awesome. They were willing to work hard, extemely polite and worked until every box had left the library. It was a huge relief for me, as the volunteer who boxes most of the community donations, to have the many spaces that were occupied by heavy boxes cleared. Tell them thanks again.'
-Shari Farmer'

For the last 5 years we have prided ourselves in helping with this event. It is yet another reminder of our motto: 'Victoria Ultra Venatus;' Victory Beyond the Game. I wanted to share this letter we received thanking us for our service and hope to see you Monday, August 5th, at TMS to help load the remaining books back on the trucks for the Goodwill.

Tournament Results

I would like to commend everyone for their efforts at Two-A-Day practices last week and at the Mason Pre-Season Tournament.

Five games is a lot for one weekend and we finished with a  3-1-1 record against some quality competition.

More impressive than that we scored 11 goals from 7 different players; many of whom had never stepped on a High School field before!

While the 11 goals scored against us is something we will work on,  I couldn't be more pleased with our conditioning, ball movement, and especially teamwork.

Your coaches  can teach you skills and drills but we can't teach the unselfish play we witnessed.

Practices will continue this week Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday;  7pm at THS.  THERE WILL BE NO MORNING PRACTICES.

We are limited to 10 'contact days' in the summer so next week we will be back to Open Fields  Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 7:00 at THS until regular season practices can officially begin on August 5.  Practice times and locations that week are yet to be determined.

In the meantime you should all be working out on your own running and juggling.  Don't let this past week's hard work be wasted;  build on it!

You MUST have a completed Physical by August 5th or you will not be allowed to practice.  If you don't have your Physical yet, Indian Creek Family Health Center is offering discounted physicals tomorrow July 16th.   Call for an appointment and specify that you are with Talawanda:  513-523-2340.

Summer Info

Soccer Players & Parents,

I hope everyone is having a restful summer!

Turnout for open fields has been good.  We’ve been averaging about 14 players a session.  While open fields are not mandatory the more touches we can collectively get on the ball now the better off we’ll be when the season starts.  If you are in town and aren’t working or playing another sport I highly encourage you to come out.  Bring a friend.

Starting next week we will be moving open fields to a later time (5-6:30) and different location (Oxford Community Park) in order to beat the heat.   Look for coach Chad on the back fields Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Even if you are traveling or can’t make open fields at these times you can be working on the conditioning program we handed out at the end of the school year.  If you lost yours or don’t know what we’re talking about contact us and we’ll get you a copy.

Two- A-Day practices will be held the week of July 8th after the Holiday weekend.  I should stress that no one’s position is written in gold and that while we have not made cuts in the past players and teams could change.  These practices count as our official ‘contact days’ so plan on being there unless you have given us a reasonable excuse ahead of time. This is a chance for you to show the coaches how hard you’ve been working in the off season and that you deserve to wear the red, white, and blue.

We will have a morning session from 8am-9:30am at the park and an evening session from 7-8:30pm at THS.  Bring both running shoes and cleats, plenty of water, shin pads, and a ball.

The week will culminate with the Mason Pre-Season Classic tourney held the weekend of July 12th through the 14th.  The entry fee is $30 per player for a guaranteed 5 games (checks payable to Talawanda Athletic Boosters). Over 50 teams from around the area will be participating.  Click this link for more information: http://www.masonpreseasonclassic.com/

It is never too early to start turning in your forms.  All players must have a completed physical at the start of regular season practices on August 5th.  Physicals are being offered at the High School Saturday June 22nd,  from 10am-12pm. The discounted rate is $25 ($10 of which will go back to Talawanda Boosters).

Indian Creek Family Health Center will also have physicals on June 25th & July 16th.   Call for an appointment and specify that you are with Talawanda:  513-523-2340.

I know this is a lot of information all at once but if you have questions or need more information please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Looking forward to a great season.... GO BRAVES!

Coach Kelly
