Beyond the Game

On behalf of the Friends of the Oxford Lane Library, I want to send a huge thank-you to the Talawanda Boys' Soccer Team and coaches for their help with getting items from storage and to the library for our mega book sale.

The boys and their coaches were ready and at the locker before8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. They helped us empty out the completely filled locker, and then continued their assistance at the library, unloading and carrying into the library the boxes from our vehicles.

All was going smoothly to that point, until the library's elevator broke down. The book sale is held in the library's meeting room on the second floor, which meant that all the boxes had to be somehow taken up two flights of stairs.
The boys and their coaches rose to the occasion, forming a "book brigade" up the stairs. They didn't quit until the hundreds and hundreds of boxes were upstairs and ready for us to unpack and sort for the sale.

We can't say enough about how grateful we are for their help, their willingness to assist, their positive attitude even when what should have been a one hour job turned into a several hour strenuous effort. They went above and beyond what was asked and expected. We are so impressed with this group of young men and their coaches. They are outstanding representatives of Talawanda.

JT Brown to Bethel College

Talawanda senior signs letter of intent to play college soccer

CONTRIBUTED
Talawanda senior JT Brown is flanked by his parents, Diane and Mark, after signing his letter of intent to play soccer at Bethel College, where his older brother, Justin, already plays.

National Signing Day on Feb. 3 received a heavy focus on football, but one Talawanda senior took the opportunity to sign his letter of intent to play college soccer.
JT Brown will take his skills on the pitch to Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind., this fall.
Bethel was one of the senior’s top three choices during recruiting, but the school really had an advantage over the other possibilities in part because his brother, Justin, already plays for the Pilots.
